Professional Society Activities

The department organizes a host of co-curricular activities including guest lectures by experts from industry, student seminars, industrial visits and technical competitions to improve the Technical knowledge, and practical exposure as well as the communication skills. The Institution of Engineers (India), Civil Engineering Students Chapter will be inaugurated in the current semester.

Student Seimar

The student seminars are being organized as the part of Institution of Engineers (India) students’ chapter every week and the best student seminar is recognized and rewarded with a certificate.

CURIOS 2K13 - A National Level Technical Symposium

Department of Civil Engineering organized CURIOS 2K13, A National Level Technical Symposium, on February 21-22, 2013. There was an overwhelming response for the Paper Presentation Contest from students of engineering college from Andhra Pradesh and Odisha. The theme of the papers included Green buildings, Nano- technology Applications, Robosand, Plastic roads, Earthquake-resistant Buildings etc. Fifteen papers were shortlisted from which the top two papers were selected for first and second prizes and were awarded cash prize of Rs.2000 and Rs.1000 respectively. Poster presentation was also organised amongst the participants of the Symposium and the best Poster was awarded cash prize of Rs.1000.

Students also participated enthusiastically in the Civil Engineering Model contest with the models of bridges, dams and other Irrigation projects. Ms. K. Himabindu, Reg.No. 311126508019 , II/IV Civil, who presented London Tower Bridge model, bagged First prize in the competition and was awarded cash prize of Rs. 1000.

Workshops

Student training workshop and “Techno-Champ” National Level Competition has been organized by Pro India Group, with the association of IIT Guwahati in the Department of Civil Engineering. Prior to the competition the students have been trained on STAAD-Pro on 16th -18th March, 2014 by Mandeep Singh, Pro India Group.

Guest Lecture

A Guest Lecture on the topic “Soil Investigation and Foundation Failures” by Dr.A.Srirama Rao (former Principal, JNTU, Kakinada) has been organized by the department of Civil Engineering on 18th March, 2014

A Guest Lecture on the topic “Scope and Opportunities for Young Civil Engineers” by Dr.Rama Rao Karri (Postdoctoral Research Fellow and Consultant, Singapore Delft Water Alliance (SDWA), National University of Singapore) has been organized by the department of Civil Engineering on 21st March, 2014.

The department of Civil Engineering organized the valedictory function of Institution of Engineers Civil Engineering student Chapter with Sri K Venkateswara Rao, Joint Director (Designs), Navy, MES, Visakhapatnam attended as the Chief Guest. The valedictory address was “A glimpse into certain Defense Works” on 22nd March, 2014.

A Guest lecture on “Condition Assessment of Concrete Buildings- Basics, Importance and Methods” by Dr. Daneti Saradhi Babu, Head R & D, and Concrete Specialist at Alliance Concrete Singapore Pte Ltd., has been organized by the department of Civil Engineering on 1st August, 2013.

Model competition

Two models displayed during College Annual Day function have been selected and are rewarded during the IEI(India) Valedictory function.

The model “Solution for Traffic Congestion at NAD junction” has won Best model during the IEI (India) Valedictory function.
