Name of the Laboratory

Strength of Material

The strength of material laboratory focuses on educating the students about the basic properties of structural materials and behavior of simple structural elements by performing a series of experiments.

The laboratory is well equipped with the essential equipments namely
Universal Testing Machine, Impact Testing Machine (Izod And Charpy), Spring Testing Machine, Hardness Testing Machine – Brinell, Hardness Testing Machine –Rockwell, Cantilever Beam-Wood, Cantilever Beam-Mild Steel, Simply Supported Beam-Wood and Simply Supported Beam-Mild Steel.

Surveying

Surveying is the art of determining the relative positions of points on, above or beneath the surface of the earth by means of direct or indirect measurements of distance, direction and elevation. The Department of Civil Engineering, ANITS is provided with the essential equipment to carry out survey field work.

The following are the equipment available with the department,

Chain 30m, 100 links, Cross staff (Aluminum), Wooden Pegs, Offset rods (square), Auto level with all std accessories, Dumpy level with all std accessories, Prismatic Compass, Plain table, Theodolite, Tachometer, Invar tape - 15m and 30m, Surveyors compass, Planimeter and Total Station.

Geotechnical Engineering

Laboratory testing is a significant part of soil characterization. The Geotechnical Engineering Laboratory in the Department of Civil Engineering, ANITS is well equipped to enablehands-on learning and practice by students on the properties and applications of soil from engineering point of view.An amount of Rs 13.34 lacks has been spent for Geo-technical Engineering Lab for the Laboratory establishment.

The equipment available in the Geotechnical Laboratory are :

Concrete Lab

For buildings and civil engineering structures of all kinds, concrete is the most widely used construction material in the world. In order to attain the objectives of sustainable development and to construct durable concrete structures, applied and fundamental studies are of paramount importance in this field. The Concrete Lab in the Department of Civil Engineering is well equipped with the laboratory equipments. An amount of Rs 11.64 lacks has been spent for Concrete Technology Lab for its establishment.

The laboratory tests that are conducted are, Specific gravity and unit weight of cement, coarse and fine aggregates, determination of normal consistency of cement, initial and final setting time, fineness of cement, determination of compressive strength of cement (for different grades of cement), bulking characteristics of sand, sieve analysis of coarse and fine aggregates and classification as per IS 383, Workability tests on green concrete by slump cone, compaction factor apparatus, flow table, Vee-Bee consistometer, tests on Hardened concrete by compressive Strength, split tensile strength, modulus of rupture, Case studies on Framed structures and Plate girder bridges.

Environmental Engineering

The Environmental Engineering Laboratory in the Department of Civil Engineering provides excellent research facilities. It is spread over an area of 1642 sft mutually shared with the Chemistry department. For the Under Graduation level the experiments are conducted in the laboratory with the following equipments.

Non consumable: Digital pH meter with combined pH electrodes, Digital Turbidity meter 132, Jar testing apparatus, Muffle Furnace up to 900 degree centigrade with digital temperature controller, Thermostatic Water Bath with digital temperature controller, Rectangular Hot plate 250*400mm with ss top, BOD Incubator with inner chamber 450*400* 820 mm 6ft no of shelves 3 inner ss chamber with chamber illumination & automatic voltage stabilizer and Burette Stand, Digital weighing balance.

Consumable: As far as the experiments are concerned, over 50 consumable chemicals and glass ware worth 1, 07,000 rupees have also been purchased in the environmental engineering laboratory.

Fluid Mechanics

In the Fluid Mechanics Laboratory in the Department of Civil Engineering which is shared with the Department of Mechanical Engineering, the students perform experiments to understand the theory subjects with the practical knowledge. The laboratory is equipped with the equipments like Venturi meter and Orifice meter, Notches and Weir, Orifice and Mouth piece apparatus, Combine mouth piece and orifice apparatus including internal mouth piece (Board's mouth piece) and convergent piece with SS tank and Flow nozzle Meter apparatus With SS tank.

The fluid Mechanics laboratory course in the Civil Engineering consists of FM-I and FM-II for second year and fourth year students respectively.

Transportation Engineering Laboratory

For construction of Highways, Bitumen, Tar or Asphalt and Aggregates are used as a construction material. In order to assess and ensure the quality of these materials, the Index properties and the physical properties of the materials are defined in Transportation Engineering Laboratory. The Transportation Lab in the Department of Civil Engineering has been established with equipment of standard quality including 1) Los Angles Abrasion Machine; 2)Impact test apparatus; 3) Aggregate Crushing value equipment; 4) Penetration test apparatus; 5) Standard Viscometer; 6)Ductility test apparatus; 7) Softening point test apparatus; 8) Flash and Fire point test apparatus 9) Flakiness Index apparatus; 10) Elongation Index apparatus; 11) Sieves (100mm, 63mm, 50mm, 45mm, 37.5mm, 25mm, 12.5mm,6.3mm, 4.75mm, 2.36mm; 2.17mm, 600microns, 300microns, 75microns); 12) Specific gravity basket; 13) Density Bottle etc.; 14) Marshall test Apparatus.

Computer Lab

Experiments in the Computer lab will give better knowledge in 3D modelling, analysis, design problems and digitizing images, analyzing various functions in GIS Software. Software knowledge is essential for getting good opportunities after completing the course. Computer Lab experiments Consists of Drafting, Modelling, Analysis and design of structural elements and structures, Digitization of images , creation of thematic maps etc,. 3D modelling package Staad Pro is used for modelling, analysis and design experiments, drafting experiments are carried out using Auto CAD and Arc Map 10.5.1 is used for Performing GIS related experiments. Computer lab Consists of 42 Nos computer systems, Wireless LAN Connection, UPS : 10KVA and STAAD Pro APO bundle consisting STAAD Pro & 31 other software for 3 years 5 perpetual licenses 500 student licenses valid up to 30-10-2020, ARC GIS for desktop Basic 10.5 for 42 systems with ARC GIS II essential work flows student edition material including training.
